שימוש ב-A ו-An

הכלל הבסיסי:

A משמשת לפני מילים שמתחילות באות רגילה (Consonant Sound):

  • דוגמה:

    a table (שולחן)

    a book (ספר)

    a horse (סוס)

An משמשת לפני מילים שמתחילות בצליל תנועה (Vowel Sound):

A, E, I, O, U

  • דוגמה:

    an hour (שעה - "hour" נשמע כצליל תנועה)

דגשים חשובים:

  • אם יש תואר לפני שם העצם, הכלל נשאר זהה:

    an old book (ספר ישן)

    a big house (בית גדול)

  • לעולם אל תשתמשו ב-a/an עם מילים ברבים או מילים שאינן ניתנות לספירה:

    • שגוי: a water

    • נכון: I need water. (אני צריך מים)

מילים שאינן ספירות (Uncountable):

  • מילים כמו "milk," "money," "furniture" אינן ספירות ואי אפשר להשתמש בהן עם A/An:

    • נכון: I need milk.

    • שגוי: I need a milk.

שימוש ב-The

הכלל הבסיסי:

The מתאר משהו ספציפי או ברור. אפשר לתרגם אותו ל-"ה" הידיעה בעברית.

  • דוגמה:

    I cleaned the kitchen. (ניקיתי את המטבח.)

    The book on the table is mine. (הספר שעל השולחן שלי.)

מתי משתמשים ב-"The"?

  1. כשכבר הזכרנו את העצם קודם לכן:

    He saw a dog. The dog was barking.

    • (הוא ראה כלב. הכלב נבח.)

  2. כשיש רק דבר אחד בעולם:

    The sun is shining. (השמש זורחת.)

    The moon is bright tonight. (הירח בהיר הלילה.)

  3. כשמדברים על מקומות או שירותים ידועים:

    I went to the supermarket. (הלכתי לסופרמרקט.)

    She’s at the doctor’s. (היא אצל הרופא.)

מתי לא משתמשים ב-"The"?

  • לפני מילים כלליות כמו "school," "college," או "prison," אם לא מדובר על מקום מסוים:

    • נכון: She goes to school every day.

    • שגוי: She goes to the school every day.

Countable vs. Uncountable Nouns (מילים ספירות ולא ספירות)

ספיר (Countable):

מילים שניתן לספור. אפשר להשתמש בהן ב-a/an או ברבים.

  • דוגמאות:

    a book, two books (ספר, שני ספרים)

    a suitcase, five suitcases (מזוודה, חמש מזוודות)

לא ספיר (Uncountable):

טיפים לשימוש ב-A/An/The:

    • שגוי: I like a music.
